Artist Hứa Thanh Bình was born on June 21, 1957, in Saigon into a large family, where he early discovered his passion for art.
In 1974, he graduated from the intermediate fine arts program at the Gia Định National School of Decorative Arts, and in 1977, completed his intermediate studies at Ho Chi Minh City University of Fine Arts (1975-1977). From 1981-1985, he worked at the Ho Chi Minh City Museum while simultaneously completing his university degree at HCMC University of Fine Arts.
"Actually, talent and passion are important, but to maintain that passion, to keep the creative flow alive, requires great willpower and determination to paint. Being strict with oneself gradually becomes a habit, becomes a need to paint. That's when painting becomes the moment you truly live, find balance, express your heart... and continuously elevate and perfect your artistic abilities."
- Hứa Thanh Bình
Artist Hứa Thanh Bình has lived fully with his creative passion while fulfilling his duties as a civil servant for nearly 40 years in various positions: museum artist (1978-1999), lecturer and head of Fine Arts Department at HCMC College of Culture and Arts (2000-2010), and deputy director of professional affairs at HCMC Fine Arts Museum (2010-2017).
The two paintings Lối xưa and Nàng xuân, both oil on canvas created in 2025, bear the distinctive mark of Hứa Thanh Bình's personal style, employing modern visual language while maintaining content and style deeply rooted in national character.
In Hứa Thanh Bình's paintings, we consistently see images of beautiful women with slender, gentle, elegant yet profound figures, seamlessly integrated with the subtle presence of sometimes the powerful yet soft Lý dynasty dragon imagery, other times expressive horses accompanied by decorative patterns from traditional Vietnamese art.
